Nadal is in action on Centre Court again today when he faces Russian Karen Khachanov in the third round of Wimbledon 2017.
But first it was when he was trying to stock up on Diet Coke earlier in the week that he found himself in trouble, presumably with the notorious “unexpected item in the bagging area”.
Fortunately for the Spaniard, Nick Roberts from Merseyside was on hand to help him out.
“We'd been for a day at the tennis and popped into Tesco,” Roberts said.
“My friend spotted him in there. I had a chat to him in the queue.
"I'm not sure he could understand what I was saying to be honest. I was a little over-excited. He went to use the self-service but I could tell he didn't really get it.
"So I just helped him out. Luckily my friend Dave took a photo. He was really lovely with everyone. What a guy."
Nadal took time out yesterday to thank his knight in shining armour, tweeting a message of gratitude.
“Always thankful to have people helping when you are having problems,” Nadal wrote.
“Thank you for your help Nick!”
