Antonio Conte is becoming frustrated with Chelsea’s hierarchy over their lack of progress in the transfer window, according to reports in Italy.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Conte had expected Chelsea’s board to act quickly after the season had ended to secure their main targets.
The Italian is keen to significantly reinforce his squad ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League next term, but is unhappy with the lack of urgency shown so far.
The report also claims that the tension is mutual between Conte and Chelsea as the club are not pleased with the manager’s handling of Diego Costa after the striker was told by text message that he has no future at Stamford Bridge.
Costa’s decision to make Conte’s message public now means that Chelsea are in a weaker negotiating position as clubs know that the striker is not wanted.
Unlike Manchester City and Manchester United, Chelsea are yet to complete a major summer signing but are believed to be leading the race to sign Romelu Lukaku after the Everton striker revealed last week that he had agreed personal terms with an unnamed club.
Everton, however, are demanding a £100 million transfer fee for the Belgium international.
Chelsea are also believed to be closing in on the signing of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
L’Equipe claimed on Saturday that a £35m deal had been agreed between the two clubs and that the Premier League champions were hopeful of announcing the transfer this week.
