This is the first picture of a man accused of lying about losing family members in Grenfell in an attempt to secure aid set aside for victims.
Anh Nhu Nguyen, 52, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today charged with two counts of fraud by false representation.
Nguyen, of Beckenham, south-east London, made no indication of plea to the charges and was remanded in custody.
He is set to appear at Southwark Crown Court on July 28.
More than 80 people were killed in the blaze which devastated the 24-storey building on June 14, leaving scores of others homeless.
Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack, who is leading the police inquiry into the fire, said: "The distress and suffering caused to so many families and loved ones that night is harrowing.
“That night people lost their homes, all their possessions and tragically their families and loved ones.
“The focus of all of us should be on supporting victims and families, recovering loved ones from Grenfell Tower and investigating the fire.
“I have made it clear that we are not interested in investigating things such as sub-letting or immigration matters as I want their help – and do not want there to be any hidden victims of this tragedy."
